Stephen H. Heidel, M.D., M.B.A.
Stephen H. Heidel, M.D., M.B.A. is a graduate of Middlebury College, The University of Rochester School of Medicine, and the Simon Graduate School of Management at the University of Rochester, where he graduated with honors. He completed his residency training in psychiatry at UCSD School of Medicine. He served as Chief Resident his final year. After completing his residency training in psychiatry at UCSD, Stephen Heidel started his career on the faculty of the Department of Psychiatry at UCSD Medical School. In 1979 he founded and served as C.E.O. of Integrated Insights, a licensed behavior health plan, including an employee assistance program, and a behavioral consulting firm. This business received both the Small Business of the Month Award by the San Diego Chamber of Commerce and The Bank of America Enterprise Award.
After selling the business in 2003, Dr. Heidel formed Heidel and Associates to continue consulting to organizations. He combines his understanding of people and human behavior with his knowledge of business systems to help businesses manage challenging situations. His services include senior management consultations that include skills assessment and coaching, family business consulting, crisis and conflict management services and psychiatric fitness-for-duty examinations. He has been in practice for 30 years, with a special interest in treating executives.
Stephen Heidel has been active on the Chamber of Commerce’s CEO Roundtable, The Executives’ Association, Adaptive Business Leaders Organization (ABL) and Rotary Club. He has also served on the Board of Directors and Executive Committees of numerous organizations. Dr. Heidel is a founding member and Past President of the Academy of Organizational and Occupational Psychiatry (AOOP), Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at UCSD School of Medicine, Distinguished Fellow in the American Psychiatric Association and recipient of the Alan McLean Award for Achievement in AOOP. He has been selected for the Best Doctors list in San Diego.
Dr. Heidel has written and spoken throughout the United States for both business and clinical audiences. Topics have included improving leadership skills, executives in crisis, managing employees in times of stress and rapid change, behavioral risk management, and dealing with problem employees.
